Why do CPR?

You do CPR to keep someone alive whose heart has stopped beating in the hope that they will recover or survive until emergency services arrive. It works by you compressing the chest correctly and blowing air into the lungs to keep oxygenated blood flowing to vital organs. Drowning and cardiac arrest are two of the commonest reasons for having the perform CPR and these things can happen in all sorts of places and to children as well as adults. It's no surprise that resuscitation skills and knowledge are required in occupations such as nursing. But it's not just healthcare workers who should know CPR. All sorts of workplaces and community organisations must have a designated first aider who can step up and perform the procedure.

This is first aid training so essential that it is only valid for one year. You must take a refresher course annually if you are the First Aid Officer or WHS representative in an organistion.

Where can a CPR course with AED take your career?

HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is the newest nationally accredited qualification for CPR. It's essential for health care workers but is useful for anyone who wants such crucial first aid knowledge. What's more, it's a qualification on your CV that can give you the edge in all sorts of occupations.

What do you learn in the CPR Certification Course?

The CPR course teaches you the skills and knowledge required to know when and how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The techniques are based on the latest Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines, so you can be sure that your learning will be up-to-date. Because it's not only adults who need CPR you will be trained on adult, baby and child manikins. As well as this, you learn when and how to use an AED - an automatic external defibrillator.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no prerequisites for this CPR course. You can do CPR first aid training from the time you are 14, but until you turn 18 you need a consent form signed by a guardian or parent.

Numeracy and Literacy

Specifically, you need to be able to prepare a first aid incident report as well as read and follow Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Physical requirements

You have to be physically capable of kneeling and performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor. The same thing has to be done with an infant resuscitation manikin that's on a firm surface.

Unsurprisingly, most of the course is dedicated to the skills and knowledge surrounding all aspects of CPR from the positioning of the casualty to the most effective compression technique. In short, you must show that you can perform CPR and use an AED defibrillator on manikins.
